In lieu of our Nations upcoming 250th Birthday (July 4th, 2026) celebration, I wanted to make a special flag that’s simple in design but expresses the sacrifices we’ve made as a Nation to form a “More Perfect Union.”

When I began my woodworker’s journey & making American flags, I felt a sense of urgency to refresh my understanding of “our” Declaration of Independence (DoI) and in earnest, to reread the Constitution and try to understand our Founding Fathers reasons for each Amendment. Mostly for my love of Country but equally as important, I felt our Country was being torn apart by powerful forces that did NOT have “we the people” in mind. That was about the time I stumbled across a Thomas Jefferson’s Phrase “When Tyranny Becomes Law – Rebellion Becomes Duty” and that phrase just spoke to me and I wanted to make a special Union/flag for my office that would showcase his quote & genius and my concern for the Country’s path!
Further, as I re-read the DoI (especially)
“When in the course of human events , it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Natures God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”
Meaning, ‘Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed’ to secure our rights as Men (citizens) to Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness. And, ‘whenever any form of Government (past or present) becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right (duty) of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, and should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.’
I felt compelled to make a flag that made a statement of fact and fair warning to the powers that be! Our Founding Fathers were geniuses, and they knew Democracies always commit suicide so they set up a representative system that might succeed provided its citizens were educated and, more importantly, involved with their local, state and National Government!

Well, the flag I was making for myself impacted my best friend too and he demanded he buy it (except it wasn’t for-sale) to which I finally agreed but he had two conditions:
1) It had to be limited in some way & 2) It had to be unique to he & I in some way!
The 1st part was easy, I’d limit it to 1 for each of the original 13 colonies (however, he wanted AZ since we were both born & raised so it’s limited to 50 now) but the 2nd condition he wanted required some thought. I decided I would hide or embed items inside or around the flag (and would take pictures of and share them) that only he (the owner) and I would know what the items were & where they were located within the flag. That way, if a replica of his “authentic flag” ever showed up on “E-Bay” he could easily prove it’s a forgery and NOT a custom, handmade HCBJ.com American Flag simply by running that flag through an X-ray disproving its authenticity!
With each sale and each State, the price goes up, is never negotiated down and if it never sells it’ll end up on my wall after all. What I thought was going to be a 1 of a kind has been replicated (with unique features to each) a dozen times & counting. I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about our Countries future!
Only 1 per state made with HIDDEN unique features embedded within the flag to prove authenticity that only I and the owner know of. And, during assembly, I take pictures to prove what’s what and where which will prove the original Limited Edition State Flag is authentic and which one is the forgery. As each Limited Edition Flag sells the next is priced incrementally higher adding value intrinsically.
